Born as Saumya, Soundarya made her debut with the Kannada film ‘Gandharva’, while she was studying in her first year of MBBS. However, it was her career in Telugu that changed her fortunes. Though ‘Manavarali Pelli’ was her first Telugu film, it was ‘Ammoru‘ that got released first. After a breakthrough role as a devotee in ‘Ammoru’, she went on to star with all the other top leading men — Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh,Balakrishna in Telugu, Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth in Tamil and her career graph saw a steady rise since then.
Soundarya’s box office appeal was contagious. Tollywood’s highest paid actress, she was the first to charge prices equivalent and even eclipsing, the top heroes during her reign. After a successful career that spanned over 12 years, her career was tragically cut short by her death in a plane crash.
